Kelly O'Horo

Kelly O’Horo, LPC, has been a therapist since 2010 and fell in love with EMDR therapy as a client first! She is passionate about being a trauma therapist as she has a lot of personal experience with trauma. She is a mother of 5 (four Veterans) and married to a wonderful survivor of C-PTSD, who is now also a counselor. They have 5 grandkids and, as the matriarch of the family, with an enneagram of 2, she is a natural helper and healer. Kelly believes the therapy office is the classroom for the “life stuff” our clients weren’t taught before, about emotions, coping skills, and developmentally appropriate responses for today. Formerly a public-school educator of 15 years, she enjoys helping clinicians to develop into becoming their best EMDR therapist through the consultation process. Kelly specializes in attachment and implicit trauma and dissociation throughout the lifespan. “The difference between an EMDR therapist that is a carpenter as opposed to a craftsman is rooted in exquisite attunement, excellent consultation, and trust in the process.”

Hello friends and happy October!

October Reflections: A Breath Between the Waves

This past month brought something we hadn’t felt in a while—relief. After what’s felt like a long stretch of chaos and uncertainty, we were gifted a few moments of connection, healing, and joy.

Sammy had her final cast removed and watching her move more freely again becoming her old dog self, was worth a celebration all its own. My mom, after 4 weeks of recovery from her most recent surgery, is finally showing signs of healing; it seems like some hope is finally peeking through.

We spent some much-needed time at our cabin with a few of our kids and grandkids. We laughed, played, and got our hands in the dirt with the new plants. There’s something grounding about watching little ones laugh and be silly, reminding us that life keeps growing—even when we’re tired and we forget to be playful.

We also celebrated Patrick’s 55th birthday at our son’s restaurant in San Diego. The food was incredible, but the real gift was the time together, and the joy in watching our son working hard and finding his groove in his new place.

And while we’re a couple of weeks late on Halloween decorating this year, we managed to sneak in some spooky fun between breaks in the recent storms. What surprised us most was the neighborhood’s response—so many stopped by or messaged to say how glad they were that we didn’t skip it this year. Their encouragement reminded us that even small gestures can ripple outward and bring joy to others.

Life will always stretch us. But this month reminded me that even in the stretching, there can be breath. There can be gratitude. There can be joy.

Ever wonder what it’s like to sit on our side of the therapy room?

We spend our days helping others process emotions, build insight, and find healing—but what happens when we’re the ones navigating life’s ups and downs?

In this episode of Therapists Are People Too, I sit down with Justine Bond, LMFT, to explore the human side of therapy. Behind every professional title is a person with their own story, challenges, and growth journey. We’ll talk about what it really means to hold space for others while also learning to care for ourselves, and how our personal experiences shape the way we show up in the room.

From boundaries and burnout to “aha” moments and vulnerability, we’re getting real about the parts of this work that often stay unseen. You’ll hear about the lessons we’ve learned (sometimes the hard way), how empathy goes both directions, and why being a therapist doesn’t mean having it all figured out.

Whether you’re a therapist, a client, or just curious about the inner world of mental health professionals, this episode reminds us that we’re all human—growing, healing, and learning along the way.

Tune in for an honest, heart-centered conversation that bridges the gap between therapist and human being.

🎧 Listen below! Your reminder that even healers need healing, too.
